Sūrya–Nāga Dialogue on the Perfected Gleaner-Ascetic
sāṅkhyaṃ yogaḥ pāñcarātra-vedāḥ pāśupataṃ tathā | jñānāny etāni rājarṣe viddhi nānā-matāni vai ||
The verse affirms that multiple established systems—Sāṅkhya, Yoga, Pāñcarātra, and Pāśupata—are all to be regarded as legitimate forms of spiritual knowledge, differing in viewpoint and method rather than being dismissed as non-knowledge.
Vaiśampāyana, in the didactic setting of the Śānti Parva, addresses a ‘royal sage’ and classifies several prominent philosophical and devotional-ritual traditions as distinct but recognized teachings, framing the discussion as an overview of varied doctrinal paths.
