Āścarya-kathana: Brāhmaṇa–Nāga Dialogue on Sūrya (Vivasvat) and the ‘Second Sun’ Phenomenon
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: Vyāsaś ca kathayat prītyā Dharmaputrāya dhīmate | sa evāyaṃ mayā tubhyam ākhyātaḥ prasṛto guroḥ ||
The verse emphasizes faithful transmission of dharma: Vyāsa taught Yudhiṣṭhira with affection, and Vaiśampāyana now conveys the same authoritative teaching as it came from the guru, underscoring lineage, authenticity, and ethical continuity.
In the Śānti Parva’s instructional frame, Vaiśampāyana reminds the listener that the dharma being recounted is not newly invented but the very doctrine earlier delivered by Vyāsa to Yudhiṣṭhira; he positions himself as a transmitter of that guru-origin teaching.
