Nārada’s Audience with Indra (Śānti-parva 340)
sa hi mātā pitā caiva kṛtsnasya jagato guruḥ | rājan! tvaṁ api sadā hi bhagavān puruṣottamasya pūjāṁ kartum arhasi; yasmāt sa eva samasta-jagato mātā pitā ca guruś ca |
The verse teaches that the Supreme Lord (Purushottama) is the universal parent and spiritual guide; therefore, a king should cultivate constant reverence and worship, grounding ethical rule in devotion to the highest source of dharma.
In the Shanti Parva instruction, Bhishma addresses the king (Yudhishthira), urging him to maintain continual worship of Purushottama, framing divine devotion as essential to righteous governance and moral stability after the war.
