apṛcchat pitaraṃ brahman kuto vāyur abhūd ayam | ākhyātum arhati bhavān vāyoḥ sarva-viceṣṭitam ||
The verse models dharmic inquiry: understanding the origin and functions of a fundamental cosmic principle (Vāyu) is presented as a legitimate and worthy subject of instruction, implying that ethical life is supported by knowledge of the natural and cosmic order.
A son respectfully questions his father, addressed as “Brahman,” asking from what cause the Wind arose and requesting a detailed account of all the Wind’s activities—setting up an explanatory discourse on Vāyu’s nature and role.
