इति तेषां वच: श्र॒त्वा ब्रह्मर्षिस्तानुवाच ह | उच्यतामिति तद् वत्सा यद् वः कार्य प्रियं मया
iti teṣāṁ vacaḥ śrutvā brahmarṣis tān uvāca ha | ucyatām iti tad vatsā yad vaḥ kāryaṁ priyaṁ mayā ||
彼らの言葉を聞くと、大ブラフマ仙ヴィヤーサは言った。「愛しい子らよ、申してみよ――何を望むのか。お前たちのために、私が成すべき大切な務めとは何か。」
भीष्म उवाच
A teacher responds to students with attentive listening and benevolent readiness to help, modeling dharmic conduct: hear first, then invite clear speech, and offer service without ego.
After hearing the disciples’ statement/request, the Brahmarṣi (Vyāsa) addresses them affectionately and asks them to state what they want him to do for their benefit.
