Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical prerequisites for receiving higher instruction: Vedic learning joined with inner peace (śāntātmā) and mastery over the senses (jitendriya). It presents knowledge as inseparable from discipline and humility in the guru–śiṣya setting.

A group of well-trained, self-controlled disciples gather around their teacher and remain in respectful attendance, preparing to ask questions or receive instruction. The moment sets the stage for a didactic exchange in the Śānti Parva.
