Śuka’s Guṇa-Transcendence and Vyāsa’s Consolation (शुकगति-वर्णनम्)

प्रिय अथवा अप्रियमें, दुर्बल अथवा बलवानमें जिसकी समदृष्टि नहीं है, उसमें मुक्तका क्या लक्षण है? ।। तदयुक्तस्य ते मोक्षे योडभिमानो भवेन्नूप । सुहृद्धिः संनिवार्यस्ते<विरक्तस्येव भेषजम्‌,नरेश्वर! वास्तवमें आप योगयुक्त नहीं हैं तथापि आपको जो जीवन्मुक्तिका अभिमान हो रहा है, वह आपके सुहृदोंको दूर कर देना चाहिये अर्थात्‌ यह नहीं मानना चाहिये कि आप जीवन्मुक्त हैं, ठीक उसी तरह जैसे अपथ्यशील रोगीको दवा देना बंद कर दिया जाता है

tad-ayuktasya te mokṣe yo 'bhimāno bhaven nṛpa | suhṛd-dhiḥ saṃnivāryas te viraktasyeva bheṣajam ||

ビーシュマは言った。「王よ、もし真にヨーガの規律に立たぬまま、なお『我は解脱を得たり』という慢心が起こるなら、その思いこそ善意の友が抑えねばならぬ—処方の節制を守らぬ病人から薬を差し控えるように。快と不快、弱者と強者に対して等しくあることなくして、いかなる自由の徴があろうか。」
