Adhyātma–Adhibhūta–Adhidaivata Correspondences and the Triguṇa Lakṣaṇas (Śānti-parva 301)

इन्द्रिय और इन्द्रियोंक विषय--ये सब-के-सब शरीरके भीतर स्थित हैं। मोक्ष परम दुर्लभ वस्तु है। इन सब बातोंको वेदोंके स्वाध्यायपूर्वक भलीभाँति समझ ले ।।

indriyāṇi ca indriyaviṣayāś ca sarve śarīrasya antar eva sthitāḥ. mokṣaḥ paramadurlabhaḥ. etad sarvaṃ vedānāṃ svādhyāyapūrvakaṃ samyag avagacchet. prāṇāpānau samānaṃ ca vyānodānau ca tattvataḥ; adhaś caivānilaṃ jñātvā pravahaṃ cānilaṃ punaḥ.

ビーシュマは言った。「感官と感官の対象は、すべてこの身体の内にある。解脱(モークシャ)はきわめて得難い。ゆえに、規律あるヴェーダの学習に支えられて、これらの事柄を徹底して理解すべきである。真実として、生命の気流—プラーナ(prāṇa)、アパーナ(apāna)、サマーナ(samāna)、ヴャーナ(vyāna)、ウダーナ(udāna)—を知り、さらに下行の風と、また「プラヴァハ」(pravaha)と呼ばれる上行の風を知れ。ヴァーユ(vāyu)のこの七つの区分から、さらに細かな区分が生じる。かくのごとく観察することで、聖仙たちが解脱へと説いた多くの道を学ぶのである。」

Liberation requires disciplined understanding: recognize that sensory experience is rooted within the body-mind system, and study the Vedic and yogic analysis of the vital airs (prāṇas). Mastery begins with clear knowledge of how prāṇa and the other vāyus function, supporting restraint and inner inquiry aimed at mokṣa.
