सहसंर॑ तुभ्यमित्युक्त्वा ब्राह्मणान् सम्प्रपद्यते । “राजा अपने विशाल यज्ञमें ब्राह्मणोंको सोनेके निष्क दिया करते थे। वहाँ द्विजलोग पुकार-पुकारकर कहते कि “ब्राह्मणो! यह तुम्हारे लिये निष्क है
sahasraṃ tubhyam ity uktvā brāhmaṇān samprapadyate |
ヴァーユは言った。「王が『汝に千（ニシュカ）を』と告げてはじめて、婆羅門たちは前へ進み出た。あの大いなる祭祀では金のニシュカが施与として差し出され、二度生まれの者たちは繰り返し叫んだ。『婆羅門たちよ！このニシュカは汝らのため、このニシュカは汝らのため！』しかし受け取ろうとする者は一人も歩み出なかった。贈り物が増幅され、『汝に千を』となって初めて、受け取る婆羅門が現れたのだ。」この逸話は、施しの清浄さと受者の自制が、誘惑の大きさによって試されうること、そして寛大さが強制によらず躊躇を越えさせることを示している。
