Livelihood, Virtuous Association, and Ethics of Giving
pinākadhārī śivaḥ tadā mahān prahṛṣṭo ’bhavat sma, sa ca smitam akarot; yathā brahmaṇā proktaṃ tathā yajñe bhāgam avāpa. jvaraṃ ca sarvadharmajño bahudhā vyasṛjat tadā, śāntyarthaṃ sarvabhūtānāṃ; śṛṇu tac cāpi putraka vatsa yudhiṣṭhira.
Ritual and moral order must include due honour to all rightful participants; when cosmic roles are properly acknowledged (Śiva receiving his yajña-share), disorder is calmed. Even destructive forces like Jvara can be regulated and distributed for the larger aim of peace and stability among beings.
Bhīṣma narrates that Śiva, pleased and smiling, receives the sacrificial portion as Brahmā had ordained. Then Śiva releases or distributes the personified Fever (Jvara) into many forms, explicitly to secure peace for all creatures, and invites Yudhiṣṭhira to hear the details.
