एवं विमृशतस्तस्य चिरकारितया बहु । दीर्घ:कालो व्यतिक्रान्तस्ततो<5स्याभ्यागमत् पिता,विलम्ब करनेका स्वभाव होनेके कारण चिरकारी इस प्रकार सोचता-विचारता रहा। इसी सोच-विचारमें बहुत अधिक समय व्यतीत हो गया। इतनेमें ही उसके पिता वनसे लौट आये
evaṁ vimṛśatas tasya cirakāritayā bahu | dīrghaḥ kālo vyatikrāntas tato 'syābhyāgamat pitā ||

भीष्म उवाच

Cirakari continues thinking for a long time due to his delaying nature, and during this interval his father returns, shifting the situation and setting up the next ethical development in the episode.
