Kapila–Cow Dialogue: Authority of Householder and Renunciant Dharmas
यदा न स चलत्येव स्थाणुभूतो महातपा: । ततस्तौ सुखविश्व॒स्तौ सुखं तत्रोषतुस्तदा
bhīṣma uvāca | yadā na sa calatyeva sthāṇubhūto mahātapāḥ | tatastau sukhaviśvastau sukhaṃ tatroṣatustadā ||
ビーシュマは言った。大苦行者が切り株のようにまったく動かずにいると、二羽はすっかり信を置き、安らぎを得て、その場にとどまり、そこで幸せに暮らした。
भीष्म उवाच
Steady self-restraint and non-threatening conduct (even expressed as complete stillness) can create safety and trust; dharma is shown not only by words but by a presence that removes fear from others.
A great ascetic remains perfectly motionless like a stump; seeing that he will not harm them, two birds become fully reassured and settle there, living comfortably in that place.
