Adhyāya 241: Guṇa-sṛṣṭi, Kṣetrajña-sākṣitva, and Śama through Ātma-jñāna
karmaṇā badhyate jantur vidyayā tu pramucyate | tasmāt karma na kurvanti yatayaḥ pāradarśinaḥ ||

Actions performed with attachment to results create bondage for the embodied being, whereas liberating knowledge (vidyā) leads to release; hence discerning renunciants avoid result-producing action and prioritize insight that ends saṃsāra.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Bhishma teaches Yudhiṣṭhira about the contrast between karmic bondage and freedom through knowledge, presenting the renunciant ideal of the far-seeing yati.
