Bhishma teaches a dharmic lifestyle marked by restraint and generosity: eat only after offerings and sharing (yajña-śiṣṭa), keep a standing vow of hospitality to guests, maintain steady faith (śraddhā), and honor both the gods and brahmins through proper worship and service.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on righteous conduct, Bhishma continues advising Yudhishthira on daily disciplines that sustain social and sacred order—especially hospitality, reverence, and living in a way aligned with sacrificial and charitable norms.
