Description of the Path of Meditation
iti śrīmahābhārate śāntiparvaṇi mokṣadharmaparvaṇi bhṛgubharadvājasaṃvāde jīvasvarūpanirūpaṇe saptāśītyadhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
The chapter is framed as an inquiry into jīva-svarūpa—what the individual self truly is—placing liberation-oriented understanding (mokṣa-dharma) above merely external action, and emphasizing discernment about the self’s essential nature.
This is a colophon-style closing line: it marks the conclusion of Adhyāya 188 in the Śānti Parva’s Mokṣa-dharma section, identifying the setting as a dialogue between the sages Bhṛgu and Bharadvāja and stating the chapter’s topic as the exposition of the jīva’s nature.
