अग्रय: प्रहरणानां च खड््गो माद्रवतीसुत । महेश्वरप्रणीतश्न पुराणे निश्चयं गत:,(एतानि चैव नामानि पुराणे निश्चितानि वै ।) माद्रीनन्दन! खड्ग सब आयुधोंमें श्रेष्ठ है। भगवान् रुद्रने सबसे पहले इसका संचालन किया था। पुराणमें इसकी श्रेष्ठताका निश्चय किया गया है। उपर्युक्त सारे नाम पुराणोंमें निश्चितरूपसे कहे गये हैं
agrayaḥ praharaṇānāṃ ca khaḍgo mādravatīsuta | maheśvarapraṇītaś ca purāṇe niścayaṃ gataḥ || etāni caiva nāmāni purāṇe niścitāni vai |
ビーシュマは言った。「おおマードラヴァティーの子よ、剣はあらゆる武器のうち最上である。最初にこれを動かし用いたのはマヘーシュヴァラ（ルドラ）であり、プラーナ文献はその卓越を断乎として認めている。まさにこれらの名と称号は、プラーナの伝統において定まった権威あるものとして説かれている。」
