A firm resolve to live by dharma, together with purity and pilgrimage to sacred tīrthas, is presented as a means of moral and spiritual purification—capable of releasing one from repeated or accumulated wrongdoing.
Śaunaka states a doctrinal point about expiation: taking a vow to follow dharma and undertaking tīrtha-travel while maintaining purity are described as practices that free a person from recurring and numerous sins.
