asti kaścid upāyo 'tra duṣkaraḥ pratibhāti me | yena śakyas tvayā mokṣaḥ prāptuṁ śreyas tathā mayā ||
A truly beneficial path (śreyas) may be known yet difficult (duṣkara); nevertheless, one should consider the right means (upāya) that can bring release (mokṣa) from suffering and lead to genuine welfare.
Bhishma, speaking as a counselor, tells his listener that he has in mind a particular method to resolve the present crisis; although it seems hard to carry out, it can enable the listener to gain release and allow Bhishma himself to share in the resulting good.
