ビーシュマは言った。「友であれ敵であれ、ただ習い性に従って動く者――自己の利害と時勢を省みず、友を盲信し、敵を盲疑する者――その心はつねに不安定である。ゆえに、信ずべからざる者を信じてはならず、また信ずべき者に対しても過度に信を置いてはならぬ。（この教えは、後に語られる、鼠の助けによってチャンダーラの網から猫が解き放たれる物語によって示される。）」
