त्रिवर्गमूलनिश्चयः — Determining the Roots of Dharma, Artha, and Kāma

Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 123

जो सम्पूर्ण जगतको शिक्षा देनेवाले हैं, वे धर्म प्रजापतिसे दण्डको ग्रहण करके प्रजाकी रक्षाके लिये सदा जागरूक रहते हैं। ब्रह्मपुत्र सनातन व्यवसाय वह दण्ड धर्मसे लेकर लोकरक्षाके लिये जागते रहते हैं ।।

vyavasāyāt tatastejo jāgarti paripālayat | oṣadhyastejasastasmādoṣadhībhyaś ca parvatāḥ ||

ヴァスハローマは言った。全世界を教え導くダルマは、プラジャーパティからダンダを受け取り、民を守るため常に覚醒している。梵天の子のごとき永遠のヴィヤヴァサーヤは、ダルマからダンダを受け取り、世を護るために目覚めている。ヴィヤヴァサーヤよりテージャスが生じ、世界を保つ者として警醒を失わぬ。テージャスより薬草が生じ、薬草より山々が生じる。かくして支えの秩序ある継承によって、規律の力は絶えず引き継がれ、生きとし生けるものを守る—ダルマに仕え、公の安寧を護るため、常に目覚めている。
