Gadāyuddhe Kṛṣṇopadeśaḥ (Kṛṣṇa’s Counsel in the Mace-Duel) — Śalya-parva 57
sañjaya uvāca | duryodhanāya vyasṛjad bhīmo bhīmaparākramaḥ | tadanantaraṁ bhayaṅkara-parākramaḥ bhīmasenaḥ duryodhanaparaṁ suvarṇa-jaṭitaṁ tejasvinīṁ ca bṛhatīṁ gadāṁ chukṣepa | taṁ prahāram asambhrānto lāghavena mahābalaḥ |
Even in the extremity of battle, the text highlights steadiness (asambhrānti) and disciplined presence of mind. Valor is not only force but also composure and skill—qualities expected of a kshatriya in righteous warfare.
Sanjaya describes Bhima hurling a huge, gold-adorned, radiant mace at Duryodhana. The opponent—described as mighty—faces the incoming strike without panic, using agility to respond, as the climactic mace-duel intensifies.
