Dvaipāyana-hrade Duryodhanasya Māyā — Yudhiṣṭhirasya Dharmoktiḥ (Śalya-parva, Adhyāya 30)
जित्वा वा पृथिवीं भुड्क्ष्व हतो वा स्वर्गमाप्तुहि । जिसमें राजा दुर्योधन सो रहा था
jitvā vā pṛthivīṁ bhuṅkṣva hato vā svargam āptu hi |
サञ्जयは語った。「勝って大地を享受せよ。あるいは討たれるなら、必ずや天界に至るであろう。」彼らは、王ドゥルヨーダナが水中に身を隠して横たわるその湖に近づくと、あの屈しがたい君主にこう告げた。「王よ、起ち上がれ。我らとともに行き、ユディシュティラと戦え。勝てば地上の王権を味わい、倒れれば戦死の功徳によって天界を得よ。」この呼びかけは、刹帝利の峻烈な道義の選択として戦を示す—勝利による世の覇権か、正しき戦いの死による天への昇りか。
