कुर्वन्तस्तव पुत्रस्य शासन युद्धदुर्मदा: । रणभूमिमें उन््मत्त होकर लड़नेवाले कितने ही युद्धाभिलाषी योद्धा उन घायलोंको वैसे ही छोड़कर आपके पुत्रकी आज्ञाका पालन करते हुए पुनः युद्धके लिये चल देते थे || १०६ || पानीयमपरे पीत्वा पर्याश्वास्य च वाहनम्

kurvantastava putrasya śāsanaṃ yuddha-durmadāḥ |
raṇabhūmau unmatta iva laḍamānāḥ kecid yuddhābhilāṣiṇaḥ yodhāḥ tān ghāyitān tathāiva parityajya tava putrasya ājñāṃ pālayantaḥ punaḥ yuddhāya prayayur iti ||
pānīyam apare pītvā paryāśvāsya ca vāhanam |
putrān anye pitṝn anye punar yuddha-bhara-rocayan ||
サンジャヤは言った。「戦の狂熱に酔い、汝の子の兵はその命を遂行した。戦を望む多くの武者は、戦場で狂人のごとく戦い、傷ついた者をそのままにして、汝の子の号令に従い再び戦へと向かった。ある者は水を飲み、乗り物を休ませてから、武具を整え、また戦いに戻った。さらに多くの兵は、傷を負った身内—子や父—を励まし、陣営に置いてから、再び戦の重荷へと心を向けた。」
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the tension between obedience to a commander and humane care for the wounded. It shows how war can intoxicate the mind, narrowing moral attention to orders and victory, while also acknowledging moments of responsibility—refreshing mounts, giving reassurance, and moving the injured to safety.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Duryodhana’s troops, driven by battle-frenzy, repeatedly return to combat. Some leave the wounded behind to follow orders; others pause to drink water and rest their horses, or escort injured relatives to the camp, then rejoin the fighting.
