तत्र युद्ध महच्चासीदर्जुनस्य परै: सह । मध्यंदिनगते सूर्ये यमराष्ट्रविवर्धनम्,वहाँ दोपहर होते-होते अर्जुनका शत्रुओंके साथ महाघोर युद्ध होने लगा, जो यमराजके राष्ट्रकी वृद्धि करनेवाला था
tatra yuddhaṁ mahac cāsīd arjunasya paraiḥ saha | madhyaṁdina-gate sūrye yama-rāṣṭra-vivardhanam ||
サञ्जयは言った。「そこでは、太陽が真昼に達したとき、アルジュナと敵勢のあいだに大いなる恐るべき戦が起こった。多くの武者を死へ送り、ヤマ（死王）の国土を増し広げる戦であった。ここに示されるのは戦の冷厳な道義的重みである。英雄の武勇でさえ、大軍の殺戮に放たれれば、死の支配を拡げる道具となるのだ。」
