This closing colophon signals a thematic unit: Duryodhana’s anguish is presented as the inner consequence of adharma—actions driven by envy, humiliation, and coercive power. The ethical lesson is that wrongdoing does not end with outward victory; it ripens inwardly as torment and fuels further escalation.
The verse is a formal chapter-ending statement (colophon) indicating that the fiftieth chapter of the Sabhā Parva’s Dyūta section has concluded, and that its focus was “Duryodhana’s distress/anguish.” It functions as a structural marker rather than a spoken dialogue line.
