Bhīṣma–Śiśupāla-saṃvādaḥ
Bhishma and Shishupala’s exchange in the assembly
वृद्ध: किल समुद्रान्ते कश्चिद्धंसो5भवत् पुरा । धर्मवागन्यथावृत्त: पक्षिण: सोडनुशास्ति च
vṛddhaḥ kila samudrānte kaścid haṃso 'bhavat purā | dharmavāg anyathāvṛttaḥ pakṣiṇaḥ so 'nuśāsti ca ||
シシュパーラは言った。「遠い昔、海辺に一羽の老いた白鳥が住んでいた。彼はダルマについて高邁な言葉を語ったが、その身の行いはそれと正反対であった。それでも彼は他の鳥たちに絶えず教え諭した――『ダルマを行え、アダルマから遠ざかれ』と。こうして鳥たちは、常に真実を語ると称するその白鳥の口から、繰り返し道徳の訓戒を聞かされたのである。」
