Rājasūya-sambhāra: Prosperity under Rājadharma and the Initiation of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Sacrifice
उभौ बलभूतौ वीरावुभौ तीव्रपराक्रमौ । निर्जित्याजी महाराज वज्भराजमुपाद्रवत्
ubhau balabhūtau vīrāv ubhau tīvraparākramau | nirjityājī mahārāja vaṅgarājam upādravat ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。両者はともに剛勇の士であり、猛く抗しがたい武威を備えていた。戦いにおいて敵を打ち破るや、王よ、ビーマセーナは間髪入れずに進軍し、ヴァンガの王を攻めた。この一節は、王の遠征における征服の勢いが止むことなく続くさまを示す。勝利の直後にさらなる攻撃が重ねられ、刹帝利の戦の義務と支配欲の高まりとのあいだの倫理的緊張が浮かび上がる。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya pattern of action in a conquest: strength and valor are praised, yet the narrative also invites reflection on how victory can fuel further aggression, raising questions about restraint and the moral cost of expansion.
Vaiśampāyana describes two formidable warriors; after winning a battle, Bhīma immediately advances to attack the king of Vaṅga, indicating the onward sweep of a military campaign.
