Jarāsandha-nipātana, rāja-mokṣa, and rājasūya-sāhāyya-prārthanā
Jarāsandha’s fall, liberation of kings, and request for support
na ātmanā ātma-vatāṁ mukhya iyēṣa madhusūdanaḥ | brāhmīm ājñāṁ puraskṛtya hantuṁ haladharānujāḥ, janamejaya |
Even when one has the power to act, dharma may require restraint: Kṛṣṇa prioritizes a higher divine ordinance (brāhmī ājñā) over personal agency, showing that righteous action includes knowing when not to act directly.
Vaiśampāyana explains to King Janamejaya that Kṛṣṇa, though supremely capable, does not wish to kill the opponent himself; he keeps Brahmā’s command foremost, implying that the enemy’s death must occur through an appointed course rather than by Kṛṣṇa’s own hand.
