Chapter 6: Dāruka’s Report; Arjuna Witnesses Dvārakā’s Desolation (दारुकवृत्तान्तः—अर्जुनस्य द्वारकादर्शनम्)
yad uktaṁ pārtha kṛṣṇena tat sarvam akhilaṁ kuru | etat te pārtha rājyaṁ ca striyo ratnāni caiva hi | iṣṭān prāṇān ahaṁ hīmāṁs tyakṣyāmi ripusūdana ||
The verse emphasizes dharma as faithful execution of rightful instruction: Arjuna must carry out Kṛṣṇa’s directive completely, taking responsibility for the kingdom’s remnants—especially the protection and stewardship of women and wealth—while Vasudeva models serene renunciation, accepting death without anxiety once duty is properly entrusted.
After the annihilation of the Yādavas, Vasudeva reports Kṛṣṇa’s message to Arjuna and formally hands over charge of the remaining royal responsibilities—realm, women, and treasures. Having transferred responsibility, Vasudeva declares his readiness to give up his life, signaling the closing of an era and the transition of guardianship to Arjuna.
