अध्याय १: महाप्रस्थानारम्भः
The Commencement of the Great Departure
प्रस्थितान् द्रौपदीषष्ठान् पुरा द्यृूतजितान् यथा । हर्षोउभवच्च सर्वेषां भ्रातृणां गमन॑ प्रति
prasthitān draupadī-ṣaṣṭhān purā dyūtajitān yathā | harṣo 'bhavac ca sarveṣāṃ bhrātṝṇāṃ gamanaṃ prati ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。彼らが旅立つとき—最上の男たち、五人の兄弟にドラウパディーを第六として—かつて賽に敗れて森へ赴いたのと同じく、その日も都の女たちは彼らの出立を見て泣いた。だが兄弟すべてにとって、この旅そのものが大いなる歓喜の源となった。
