अध्याय ९ — कर्णस्य प्रहारः, योधयुग्मनियोजनम्, शैनेय-कैकेययोर्युद्धविन्यासः
द्यूतं॑ कृत्वा पुरा हृष्ो वज्चयित्वा च पाण्डवान्
dyūtaṃ kṛtvā purā hṛṣṭo vañcayitvā ca pāṇḍavān
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「かつて彼は賽（さい）の勝負に身を投じ、得意の絶頂となり——欺きの策をもってパーンダヴァたちを騙し討ちにした。」この一句は、賭博と詐欺という道義の汚点が、のちの戦禍という大破局へと道を開いたことを想起させる。
