अध्याय ९ — कर्णस्य प्रहारः, योधयुग्मनियोजनम्, शैनेय-कैकेययोर्युद्धविन्यासः
अहो नु बलवद् दैवं कालश्न दुरतिक्रम: । किसी कार्यको अन्य प्रकारसे सोचा जाता है, किंतु वह दैववश और ही प्रकारका हो जाता है। अहो! निश्चय ही दैव प्रबल और काल दुर्लड्घ्य है
aho nu balavad daivaṁ kālaś ca duratikramaḥ | kiṁcid kāryam anyathā cintyate, kintu tad daivavaśād anyathaiva bhavati | aho! niścayaṁ hi daivaṁ prabalaṁ kālaś ca durlaṅghyaḥ ||
ドリタラーシュトラは言った。「ああ、なんと宿命は強く、時（カーラ）はいかに越え難いことか。人は事をこのように成ると案じるが、運命の力によってまったく別の形に帰してしまう。まことに宿命は強大で、時は越えられぬ。」
