Arjuna’s Rapid Advance and the Bhīma–Śakuni Encounter
tatra yāhi yataḥ karṇo drāvayaty eṣa no balam | varjayitvā raṇe yāhi sūtaputraṁ mahāratham ||
The verse highlights the battlefield ethic of responding to a decisive threat with direct engagement: when a single powerful warrior destabilizes the army, duty and strategy demand confronting that source of collapse rather than allowing fear and disorder to spread.
Sañjaya reports that Karṇa is driving the opposing forces into flight. He urges that someone go to the very point where Karṇa is breaking the army’s formation and meet him in combat, identifying him pointedly as the sūta’s son yet acknowledging him as a mahāratha.
