अज्ञातवासं वसता विराटनगरे तदा | द्रौपद्या: प्रियकामेन केवलं बाहुसंश्रयात्‌

Transliteration

ajñātavāsaṃ vasatā virāṭanagare tadā | draupadyāḥ priyakāmena kevalaṃ bāhusaṃśrayāt ||

Translation

サンジャヤは言った。その時、ヴィラータの都で身を隠して暮らしていた彼は、ドラウパディーを喜ばせたい一心から、ただ己の腕の力のみを頼りに行動した。この一句は戦士の掟を示す—自ら責を負い、守護の務めを果たすこと。名誉と愛する者の安寧が危うい時、他に寄らず、身をもって正面から勇を選ぶのである。
