युधिष्ठिरस्य धनंजय-प्रति गर्हा
Yudhiṣṭhira’s Reproach to Dhanaṃjaya
नानाप्रहरणैश्नोग्रै रथहस्त्यश्वसादिभि: । सर्वतो<भ्यद्रवत् कर्ण परिवार्य जिघांसया
sañjaya uvāca |
nānāpraharaṇaiś cogrāi rathahasty-aśvasādibhiḥ |
sarvato 'bhyadravat karṇaṃ parivārya jighāṃsayā ||
サンジャヤは言った。さまざまな猛き武器を携え、戦車・戦象・騎兵その他の兵に支えられたパンチャーラの戦士たちは、四方からカルナへと駆け寄った。討ち取らんと包囲を結び、矢と武器の嵐—矢および多種の特製の矢柄—を浴びせかけ、容赦なく戦いを押し詰めた。この光景は戦の苛烈な掟を示す。すなわち、ひとりの強大な勇士を倒すため、集団攻撃と戦術的包囲が用いられ、復讐と必然が戦場の自制を凌駕することがあるのだ。
