देवानामसुराणां च परस्परजिगीषया
devānām asurāṇāṁ ca parasparajigīṣayā | nibodha manasā cātra na te kāryā vicāraṇā ||
ドゥルヨーダナは言った。「神々とアスラが互いに勝利を求めて争った古の戦いにおいて—これを心を定めて聞かれよ。ここでは疑いも逡巡も抱くべきではない。」
दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse stresses resolute attention to counsel in a time of conflict: when rivalry is framed as a struggle for victory, the speaker urges the listener to set aside hesitation and listen with focused mind—highlighting how determination can override reflective deliberation.
Duryodhana addresses his listener and introduces an example drawn from the ancient Deva–Asura rivalry, asking him to listen carefully and not to question or reconsider what is about to be narrated.
