The Neutralization of Alambusa
ह्रादेन गजघण्टानां शड्खानां निनदेन च । नराणां पदशब्दैश्व॒ कम्पतीव सम मेदिनी,हाथियोंके घंटोंकी घनघनाहट, शंखोंकी ध्वनि तथा पैदल चलनेवाले मनुष्योंके पैरोंकी धमकसे यह पृथ्वी काँपती-सी जान पड़ती थी
hrādena gajaghaṇṭānāṃ śaṅkhānāṃ ninadena ca | narāṇāṃ padaśabdaiś ca kampatīva sā medinī ||
サञ्जयは語った。象の鈴の轟く響き、法螺貝の鳴り渡る音、そして進軍する兵の重い足音によって、大地そのものが震えるかのようであった――それは、戦の巨大で容赦なき奔流と、そこから解き放たれる苦患を告げる不吉な兆しである。
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores how collective human action—especially war—creates consequences that feel cosmic in scale: the earth ‘trembles’ as a moral and emotional register of impending destruction, urging reflection on the weight of violence and responsibility.
Sañjaya describes the battlefield’s overwhelming noise—elephants’ bells, conches, and marching feet—conveying the immense mobilization of forces and the tense, foreboding atmosphere as combat intensifies.
