The verse highlights the ethical strain between vengeance-driven violence and the dharmic obligation to respond to the suffering of innocents. The Brāhmaṇas’ compassionate cry functions as a moral check: even a powerful warrior-sage must remain answerable to the pain his actions cause and to the duty of protection.
Nārada describes a moment when leading Brāhmaṇas, distressed by events around the hermitage, cry out to Paraśurāma—addressing him as ‘Rāma of the Bhṛgu line’—imploring him to hurry and save them. The surrounding context recalls Paraśurāma’s fierce campaign against Kṣatriyas with his axe, and the lament becomes a piercing appeal that he cannot ignore.
