Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how the force of war can rapidly turn against even dharmic fighters when superior skill and weaponry are unleashed. It invites reflection on restraint (saṃyama) and responsibility in the use of power: prowess without ethical containment magnifies suffering, and victory in battle does not automatically equate to moral triumph.

Sañjaya reports that Droṇa, acting as the Kuru commander, quickly harasses and crushes the Pāṇḍava side—specifically the Pāṇḍavas and their Sṛñjaya allies. Their plight is compared to Dānavas being destroyed by Indra, emphasizing Droṇa’s overwhelming battlefield dominance at this moment.
