Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how craving for victory, when joined with anger, accelerates violence and mutual destruction. It implicitly warns that even skilled warriors, when driven by krodha and jaya-lobha, become instruments of escalating harm—an ethical tension repeatedly examined in the Mahābhārata’s war narrative.

Sañjaya describes the battlefield moment when both sides—the Pandavas and Kauravas—attack each other fiercely with sharpened weapons and missiles. The emphasis is on their battle-readiness and striking skill, and on the emotional fuel of wrath and the desire to win.
