द्रोणविक्रमदर्शनम् / The Display of Droṇa’s Onslaught and the Debate on Pāṇḍava Regrouping
एतांश्षान्यांश्व सुबहूनू नानाजनपदेश्वरान् । सर्वान् द्रोणोड5जयद् युद्धे कुरुभि: परिवारित:,कौरवोंसे घिरे हुए द्रोणाचार्यने युद्धमें सात्यकि, चेकितान, धृष्टद्युम्न, शिखण्डी, वृद्धक्षेमके पुत्र, चित्रसेनकुमार, सेनाबिन्दु तथा सुवर्चा--इन सबको तथा अन्य बहुत-से विभिन्न देशोंके राजाओंको परास्त कर दिया
etāṁś cānyāṁś ca bahūn nānā-janapadeśvarān | sarvān droṇo 'jayad yuddhe kurubhiḥ parivāritaḥ ||
サンジャヤは言った。クル族の軍に囲まれ、支えられたドローナは、戦においてこれらすべての戦士を――さらに諸国の君主たる多くの王たちをも――打ち破った。この偈は、戦の陰鬱な勢いを示す。強大な軍勢を背にした武の卓越は、名高い勇者すら圧倒し、戦場の義務と、命とダルマに積み重なる代償とのあいだの倫理的緊張をいよいよ鋭くする。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how collective force and strategic support (being 'parivāritaḥ' by the Kurus) amplifies an individual warrior’s effectiveness, intensifying the ethical strain of war: prowess and duty can produce sweeping victory, yet such success also accelerates destruction and tests dharma.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Droṇa, backed and surrounded by Kuru forces, defeated the previously mentioned warriors and many other kings from different regions during the ongoing battle.
