upavedān khalīnāṁśva kṛtvā lokatrayeśvaraḥ | gāyatrī-pragrahaṁ kṛtvā sāvitrīṁ ca maheśvaraḥ ||
ヴィヤーサは語った。「三界の主たる大自在天は、諸ウパヴェーダ(ヴェーダの補助学)を馬の轡として作り、さらにガーヤトリーとサーヴィトリーを手綱として、それらを制御下に置かれた。」この譬えは、聖なる知と規律ある誦持が、力と衝動を統べ、権威が節度と正しい秩序のもとに行使されるべきことを示す。
व्यास उवाच
Power and movement (symbolized by horses) should be governed by disciplined knowledge and sacred practice. The Upavedas, Gāyatrī, and Sāvitrī function as metaphors for restraint, right guidance, and ethically ordered action under dharma.
Vyāsa describes Maheśvara as the lord of the three worlds using Vedic elements as controlling gear: the Upavedas become the bridle, while Gāyatrī and Sāvitrī become the reins—an image of divine mastery and regulation.
