te na śarma kutaḥ śāntiṁ lebhire sama-surās tadā | vidrute sahasā yajñe kupite ca maheśvare ||
The verse underscores that peace and well-being depend on maintaining sacred order (yajña and dharma). When a holy rite is violated and divine anger is provoked, even the gods lose tranquility—highlighting the ethical weight of ritual integrity and restraint.
Vyāsa describes a moment when a sacrifice is suddenly thrown into chaos; Maheśvara (Śiva) becomes enraged, and as a result the assembled gods cannot find comfort or peace anywhere amid the upheaval.
