नामधेयानि लोकेषु बहुन्यस्य यथार्थवत् । निरुच्यन्ते महत्त्वाच्च विभुत्वात् कर्मणस्तथा,उनकी महत्ता, सर्वव्यापकता तथा कर्मके अनुसार लोकमें इनके बहुत-से यथार्थ नाम बताये जाते हैं
nāmadheyāni lokeṣu bahūny asya yathārthavat | nirucyante mahattvāc ca vibhutvāt karmaṇas tathā ||
ヴィヤーサは語った。「世において彼には多くの名が正しく帰せられる—まことに相応しい名が—それは彼の偉大さ、遍く行き渡る主権、そしてその行為の性質ゆえである。ここに示されるのは、神の異名は恣意の札ではなく、認められた徳と業から生まれ、人々をして真の功徳により記憶し判断させ、ただの慣習に流されぬよう導くということだ。」
