Shloka 19

भीमसेनका वह अत्यन्त अप्रिय वचन सुनकर द्रोणाचार्य मन-ही-मन शोकसे व्याकुल हो सन्न रह गये। जैसे पानी पड़ते ही बालू गल जाता है, उसी प्रकार उस दुःखद संवादसे उनका सारा शरीर शिथिल हो गया ।। शड्कमान: स तम्मिथ्या वीर्यज्ञ: स्वसुतस्य वै । हतः स इति च श्रुत्वा नैव धैर्यादकम्पत,फिर उनके मनमें यह संदेह हुआ कि सम्भव है, यह बात झूठी हो; क्योंकि वे अपने पुत्रके बल-पराक्रमको जानते थे; अतः उसके मारे जानेकी बात सुनकर भी धैर्यसे विचलित न हुए

sañjaya uvāca | bhīmasenasya tad atyantāpriyaṃ vacanaṃ śrutvā droṇācāryo manasā śokavyākulo mūrcchita iva babhūva | yathā salila-sparśād bālukā vilīyate tathā tasya duḥkhada-saṃvādena sarvaṃ śarīraṃ śithilaṃ babhūva || śaṅkamānaḥ sa tan mithyā vīryajñaḥ svasutasya vai | hataḥ sa iti ca śrutvā naiva dhairyād akampata ||

サञ्जयは言った。ビーマセーナの、あまりに辛辣で耳に耐えぬ言葉を聞いて、ドローナは胸中の悲嘆に打たれ、呆然として立ち尽くした。水が落ちるや砂が崩れるように、その痛ましいやり取りのために全身の力が抜けた。だが揺さぶられながらも、彼はそれが虚報かもしれぬと疑い始めた。自らの子の力と武勇をよく知っていたからである。ゆえに「彼は討たれた」と聞いても、ただちに平静を失うことはなかった。
