The verse highlights how warfare, once unleashed, generates overwhelming destruction and fear—symbolized by the earth itself trembling—inviting reflection on the ethical weight of violence and the difficulty of maintaining dharma amid rage and rivalry.
Sañjaya describes two fighters engaged in a mace-duel whose impacts create a deafening din; the force of their blows makes the ground quake, and a terrifying fight erupts in the midst of men and rākṣasas.
