praviddham ativegena vikṣiptaṃ karṇam amāyakaiḥ
Even amid violent conflict, the verse highlights an ideal of straightforwardness (amāyā)—a warriorly ethic where skill and courage are not accompanied by deceit, suggesting that moral character is still evaluated on the battlefield.
In Sañjaya’s battlefield report, a weapon launched with great force toward Karṇa is turned aside/deflected, indicating a moment of effective defense and rapid counteraction by opponents described as acting without guile.
