Droṇa’s Withdrawal, Death, and the Kaurava Rout (द्रोणनिधन-प्रसङ्गः)
संजय उवाच ततः सर्वाणि सैन्यानि हतशिष्टानि यानि वै । सेनागोप्तृनथादिश्य पुनर्व्यूहमकल्पयत्
sañjaya uvāca tataḥ sarvāṇi sainyāni hataśiṣṭāni yāni vai | senāgoptṝn athādiśya punarvyūham akalpayat ||
サンジャヤは言った。「それから彼は、殺戮ののちに残った兵をかき集め、軍の護り手と指揮官を任じ、再び軍勢を新たな戦陣へと整えた。この偈は戦の陰惨な執拗さを示す――甚大な損耗の後でさえ、統率は残余を組み直し、荒廃のただ中で秩序と統制を最優先するのである。」
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the harsh ethic of wartime leadership: after severe losses, a commander must still restore structure—assigning guardians and reorganizing formations—showing how strategy and discipline persist even when the moral cost of violence is evident.
After many soldiers have been killed, the remaining troops are gathered. Commanders/guards for the army are appointed, and the forces are rearranged into a new vyūha (battle-array) to continue the conflict.
