True martial excellence is framed by ethical steadiness: wisdom, constancy in dharma, and disciplined training are praised, but they are explicitly grounded in proper conduct and devotion to one’s teacher (guru-sevā).
In the midst of the Drona Parva’s war narrative, Kṛpa describes certain warriors (and their strong brother) by emphasizing their rigorous weapons-training and, more importantly, their virtues—service to the preceptor, learning, dharma-mindedness, and fame—thereby characterizing them as worthy and well-formed combatants.
