Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 155 — Ghaṭotkaca-nidhana-śoka and Karṇa-śakti-vyaya

Kṛṣṇa’s strategic reassurance

marma bhittvā tu te sarve saṁlagnāḥ kṣitim āviśan |

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the grim ethical tension of war: extraordinary skill, when yoked to hostility, becomes a means of targeting life itself (marma). It implicitly warns that martial excellence is morally ambivalent—its value depends on the dharmic context and restraint of its use.

Sañjaya describes arrows that have struck and pierced vital points; after lodging in the body, they continue onward and sink into the ground. It is a vivid battlefield image emphasizing the force and accuracy of the attack.
